Report: Teams More Interested In Acquiring Darius Garland Than Trae Young
David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

According to NBA insider Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, teams are more interested in acquiring Darius Garland than Trae Young

The Atlanta Hawks are expected to shop Young this summer, while Garland could request a trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers if Donovan Mitchell signs an extension.

“I can tell ya, a lot of teams will have Darius Garland ranked above Trae Young on their board of wish lists just in the fact that he has been someone who’s even been agreeable to shift his role a bit depending on what type of players are coming in,” Fischer said on his podcast.

“And with Trae Young, you are of course trading for someone in theory who only wants to operate out of high pick-and-roll action play after play after play. So put Darius Garland on the bingo card of potential All-Stars to be considered up for grabs this summer.”

Garland averaged 18.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 6.5 assists for the Cavaliers this season while shooting 44.6% from the field, 37.1% from beyond the arc and 83.4% from the free-throw line.

Meanwhile, Young averaged 25.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 10.8 assists for the Hawks while shooting 43.0% from the floor, 37.3% from 3 and 85.5% from the free-throw line. He recorded 37 double-doubles in 54 games.

Garland has been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves, while Young has been linked to the Lakers and Spurs.

The Cavaliers drafted Garland with the fifth pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. The 24-year-old has career averages of 18.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 6.7 assists.

Young has career averages of 25.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 9.5 assists. He used to be with Klutch Sports Group, the agency Garland, LeBron James and Anthony Davis are with.

Young is now with CAA.

Garland signed a five-year, $197.2 million extension with the Cavaliers in July 2022. He’ll make $36.7 million next season and $39.4 million in 2025-25.

As for Young, he signed a five-year, $215 million extension with the Hawks in August 2021. He’ll make $43 million next season and $45 million in 2025-26.
